World Radio Day in Jordan

UNESCO Amman Office celebrated World Radio Day 2018 in Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan.

The event officially inaugurated brand new radio and studio equipment, and featured a panel discussion with prominent sports personalities on how radio can promote sports in Jordan.

Under the patronage of Mohammed al Momani, Minister of State for Media Affairs, UNESCO Amman Office was joined by Yarmouk University and Yarmouk FM.

Yarmouk FM is one of the oldest student/community radio stations in Jordan, and the station as well as the Faculty of Mass Communication have recently benefitted from the exceptional donation of new radio and studio equipment as part of the EU funded “Support to Media in Jordan” project.

Prior to the celebration, a group of radio volunteers at Yarmouk FM were trained on sports reporting, the gender dimension in sports reporting, and interviewing skills.

They have produced several sports broadcasts and related shows which are being aired during the week of World Radio Day (February 11 to 15).
