World Radio Day in Zimbabwe

 

Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Radio Day with a localised theme that is largely in line with the global one has been adopted.

The theme was, “Radio, Diversity and Development”, with this year’s commemorations focusing on diversity issues in private, public and community media.

The event is was a two-day activity, which culminated with a full day event in Gweru on February 13.

The commemorations were attended by the Minister of information, Public and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa, who delivered the keynote address at the event.

The official online trending hashtag for Zimbabwe was #WRDZim2020 and the Zimbabwe Online Content Creators (ZOCC), a consortium of more than 100 ethical, credible and factual online players broadcast the event live on their social media platforms.

The event was headlined by two panel discussions, with the first one comprising of regulators, broadcasters, media experts, representatives from the Zimbabwe Association of Community Radio Stations (ZACRAs) and Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ).

The second panel featured listeners and discussed issues related to media diversity, plurality, legal framework and other resources.
