WorldDAB conference session at IBC 2017

Wednesday 13 September, 2017

The WorldDAB Advances in Technology Session at this year’s International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam from September 15 to 19 is called "DAB at the core of radio's digital transformation".

It will focus on how digital audio broadcasting is driving the biggest shift in the radio industry.

Six months after Norway started switching off national FM broadcasts in favour of digital radio, research shows that listeners remain loyal to radio. Public broadcasters and commercial radio groups are investing in DAB to secure radio's position in the future. Auto manufacturers are also looking at new uses for DAB data services and how it can be integrated into the connected car.

In a world of voice activated and smart devices, investment in digital technology is crucial for radio to retain its position within the media landscape, and this session - the only digital radio focussed session at IBC - looks at how DAB is at the core of radio's digital transformation.

The session will include progress on Norway's ongoing switch from FM to DAB+, the evolving business case for DAB for broadcasters, DAB for data and EU legislation on receivers.
