#WorldRadioDay in Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s national broadcaster Bangladesh Betar marked #WorldRadioDay (WRD) 2021 with a program featuring a discussion and a rally with the WRD theme “New World New Radio” in the country’s capital, Dhaka.

On the eve of WRD, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages greeting all concerned and wishing all programmes of the day a success.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that since its inception in 1939, Bangladesh Betar has been playing a significant role as the strongest medium, she said, adding, “It also played an important role during our War of Liberation in 1971”.

She said the broadcaster has built a bridge between the people and the government through awareness, information and programs on prevention of child marriage and violence against women, prevention of terrorism and militancy, awareness of dengue and corona epidemics and disasters.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan and Information Secretary Khaja Mia addressed the discussion as special guests with Bangladesh Betar Director General Ahmed Kamruzzaman in the chair.

The minister said radio is also playing a crucial role in nation building activities and in creating awareness during the Covid-19 situation. He said people now can listen to Bangladesh Betar programmes through apps on mobile phones all over the world.

Murad Hasan said Bangladesh Betar is playing an important role in implementing rights to information and “Digital Bangladesh”.

Khaja Mia urged officials of Bangladesh Betar to work devotedly for the welfare of people.
